Chief Bisi Akande, the founding Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has cautioned Nigerians against the idea of reinstating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to power in 2027, stating that it would exacerbate the country’s challenges. During his 85th birthday celebration in Ila Orangun, Osun State, Akande voiced his concerns about the opposition’s proposition to form a coalition to unseat the ruling party.

He expressed skepticism about the potential coalition, asserting that it would not alleviate the prevailing hardship endured by Nigerians. Akande emphasized that reverting to the PDP would only lead to a return to the suffering experienced under the party’s previous governance. He attributed the PDP’s defeat to its lack of direction and stressed that the APC, despite grappling with a distressed political and economic landscape, has been endeavoring to rectify deep-seated issues.

In his own words, Akande highlighted the intricate task of steering Nigeria towards progress, drawing attention to the extensive period of neglect and mismanagement predating the APC’s tenure. He acknowledged the imperfections within the current administration led by President Buhari, underscoring the formidable challenges inherent in rectifying decades of damage.

As Nigeria stands at a crossroads in determining its political trajectory, Akande’s admonition underscores the significance of thoughtful consideration and conscientious decision-making in shaping the nation’s future. His perspective elucidates the complexities inherent in Nigeria’s political landscape, urging citizens to appraise the ramifications of their choices beyond partisan divides.
