Bank Windhoek: Potential Loss After Theft, Bank Assures No Customer Funds Affected

Bank Windhoek’s managing director, Baronice Hans, has stated that the potential loss following an alleged N$200 million theft by an employee is less than N$2 million. Although the incident has garnered attention, Hans reassured the public that no customer funds have been affected. The bank has attributed the minimized loss to the vigilance of its staff and the resilience of its systems and controls.

In response to the theft, Bank Windhoek has taken swift action to recover some of the stolen funds and is actively collaborating with law enforcement authorities in their ongoing investigation. The incident came to light as the police reported that the suspect, Nico Rebebe, allegedly transferred the stolen funds into two bank accounts without the necessary authorization. Consequently, the police have issued a wanted notice for Rebebe, heightening the urgency of the ongoing investigation.
