Tanzania is witnessing the initiation of mineral exploration activities in the Dodoma, Shinyanga, and Singida regions as Greenfield Exploration embarks on a quest to unearth commercial mines. The subsidiary of Geita Gold Mine Limited (GGML) has set its sights on discovering lucrative mines in these regions over the past four years.
During a recent visit to GGML, Alberto Calderon, CEO of AngloGold Ashanti, expressed the company’s commitment to bolstering its presence and production levels in Tanzania. He articulated the company’s investment objectives, stating, “This is why we’re investing to find another world-class gold deposit in Tanzania.”
As GGML gears up to commemorate its 25th anniversary in April, it marks a significant milestone, having produced its inaugural gold bar in June 2000. In line with its parent company AngloGold Ashanti’s sustainability strategy to curb carbon emissions, GGML is spearheading a project aimed at halving the mine’s power costs and potentially minimizing its carbon footprint by 2030. It’s essential to note that AngloGold Ashanti holds the distinction of being the world’s fourth-largest gold producer by production.
Greenfield Exploration, with its headquarters based in Dodoma, remains at the forefront of this ambitious endeavor.
This ambitious initiative not only underscores the growing prominence of Tanzania in the global mining landscape but also highlights the concerted efforts of industry leaders to synergize economic growth with environmental sustainability. As the saga of Greenfield’s exploration unfolds, it holds the promise of reshaping Tanzania’s mineral landscape and catalyzing sustainable development in the Central Corridor.
