William Troost-Ekong Urges Nigerian Fans: “Don’t Give Up on Us” After AFCON 2023 Draw

The vice-captain of the Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, has made a heartfelt plea to Nigerian football fans following the team’s disappointing start in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In their opening match against Equatorial Guinea’s Nzalang Nacional, the Super Eagles struggled to a 1-1 draw, leaving fans and pundits alike questioning their potential in the tournament. With the next crucial fixture against the tournament hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, Troost-Ekong emphasized the need for unwavering support from the fans.

“Thank you for the support for the guys that came out there,” Troost-Ekong expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the fans’ presence at the game. Despite the let-down, he urged the fans to maintain their support, stating, “Don’t give up on us.”

The PAOK Salonica defender acknowledged the disappointment felt by the fans but highlighted the positives from the match. “We created a lot of chances, and on another day we would have won that game,” he noted, emphasizing the team’s motivation for their upcoming match.

The Super Eagles will face Cote d’Ivoire in a crucial fixture at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpé, Abidjan. With their sights set on redemption, Troost-Ekong’s plea echoes the team’s determination to turn their fortunes around.

Thursday’s encounter is poised to be a defining moment for the Super Eagles as they seek to reignite their AFCON 2023 campaign. Kick-off is scheduled for 5pm, and the Nigerian faithful will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in spurring their team towards victory.
