In a direct and assertive move, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State addressed the persistent issue of power outage affecting Nigerian citizens daily, during a visit from the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu. The power blackout occurred while Adelabu, an Ibadan native, was on a scheduled tour of power facilities within the country, commencing with his home state.

During the encounter, Makinde, while acknowledging the power disruption, emphasized, “During your speech, there was a power outage and that is what Nigerians face every day. But we do know that we can improve the electricity situation in our country.” He further announced plans to capitalize on the Electricity Act 2023, positioning it as a game-changer for Oyo State, with an impending endorsement of the state’s version of the law.

The governor remained resolute in his commitment to transcending political divides for the betterment of the state, expressing a willingness to accredit the Federal Government for assisting in improving living conditions. Makinde substantiated this by pointing out the collaboration between the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency and Oyo State’s Rural Electrification Board, highlighting the potential they possess in leveraging their partnership to achieve substantial progress.

Makinde’s proactive approach to addressing the power crisis, combined with his diplomatic stance, has the potential to pave the way for a collaborative effort between the state and federal government, ultimately benefitting the populace.
