Super Eagles Regroup for AFCON Clash Without Osimhen and Yusuf

The training ground for the Nigerian national football team saw a notable absence as Victor Osimhen and Alhassan Yusuf were sidelined on Monday. This development follows the team’s recent 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan during the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

It’s been reported that both Osimhen and Yusuf made an appearance at the training session but were restricted from actively participating. Osimhen reportedly engaged with the coaching staff immediately upon the team’s arrival, citing reasons for his inability to join the training. The specifics of the issue causing his absence remain undisclosed.

Meanwhile, Terem Moffi, the striker from OC Nice in France, was observed putting in strenuous efforts during the training. Additionally, Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho demonstrated his abilities, offering Jose Peseiro, the team’s coach, alternative options in the attacking department.

In light of these developments, the Super Eagles are gearing up to face the host team, Elephants of Cote Dโ€™Ivoire, at the Stade Olympique Alassan Ouattara Stadium on Thursday. Babafemi Raji, the team’s Media Officer, confirmed that Osimhen and Yusuf’s absence from Monday’s training was solely a precautionary measure. He relayed this information to journalists on the sidelines of the training.

The absence of key players like Osimhen and Yusuf raises questions ahead of the crucial AFCON clash. Fans and football enthusiasts eagerly await further updates regarding their availability and the team’s preparation for the upcoming match.
