Abuja Traffic Update: FCTA Cracks Down on Signal Violators

Motorists in Abuja, beware! The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a serious admonition against disregarding traffic signals in the city.

In an exclusive interview with Media Talk Africa, Mr. Wadata Bodinga, the Director of Traffic Management at the FCTA’s Transportation Secretariat, conveyed a clear message to the public: there will be consequences for flouting traffic regulations.

Despite a noticeable 80% reduction in violations, Bodinga emphasized that the situation is still not at an optimal level. He highlighted the persistent issue of some individuals recklessly running red lights within the city limits.

To address this ongoing problem, Bodinga revealed that the FCTA is currently implementing upgrades to the traffic lights. These enhancements will empower the devices to effectively gather and store traffic data at every intersection throughout the city. Once activated, the improved system will have the capability to capture real-time footage of traffic violators, transmitting their vehicle details directly to the traffic light Control Centre.

In no uncertain terms, Bodinga cautioned that individuals who choose to flout the signal lights will face severe repercussions. Whether through fines upon vehicle registration renewal or alternative punitive measures, the FCTA is resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all road users in the region.

As the FCTA takes proactive measures to enhance traffic management, the message is unequivocal: disregarding traffic lights in Abuja will no longer go unpunished. Let this serve as a clear warning to all motorists navigating the roads of the Federal Capital Territory.
