INEC Declares Readiness for Cross River Rerun Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced its preparedness for the upcoming rerun election in Cross River, set for February 3. Mrs. Anthonia Nwobi, the state’s INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity, assured the public of this readiness in a statement released on Tuesday in Calabar.

The rerun is scheduled to take place in 34 polling units across Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, Obanliku, and Yala two, State Constituency. Mrs. Nwobi emphasized that only voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) and those registered in the affected polling units are eligible to participate in the election. Additionally, she mentioned that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be deployed for the election, with activities commencing at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 2:30 p.m. Importantly, she clarified that voters in the queue by 2:30 p.m. would all receive the opportunity to cast their ballots, ensuring inclusivity.

In a direct call to action, Mrs. Nwobi urged voters in the affected areas to actively engage in the democratic process by turning out in large numbers to vote for their preferred candidates during the election.
