In a remarkable display of unity, the top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State have come together to sign a renewed peace accord. This significant development comes ahead of the highly anticipated Supreme Court verdict on the gubernatorial election dispute within the state.

The historic signing ceremony took place at the Nigeria Police Command Headquarters in Lafia, serving as a pivotal moment for both parties to reaffirm their dedication to the state’s security and stability. As the political tension escalates, this peace pact signifies a collective effort to maintain a peaceful environment amidst the impending judicial decision.

Douglas Otaru, the Publicity Secretary of the APC, emphasized the importance of maintaining civility and decorum among the party members. In a released statement, Otaru urged supporters to refrain from incendiary remarks and cautioned against unauthorized disclosures pertaining to the Supreme Court proceedings. He stressed the necessity for all statements on court proceedings to be verified and sanctioned by the party hierarchy before dissemination. Additionally, Otaru called for compliance with security agencies’ directives, underscoring the imperative nature of strict adherence to instructions.

The appeal extends beyond the confines of the APC, reaching out to the opposition PDP and its supporters. The call to honor the peace treaty, exercise civility, and uphold decorum underscores the collective commitment to fostering an atmosphere of peace and stability within Nasarawa State.

As the political landscape of Nasarawa State remains in a state of flux, the Supreme Court reserved judgment in the appeal filed by PDP. The party sought redress following the annulment of the election tribunal’s judgment, which led to the unseating of Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.
The overarching message is clear: irrespective of political affiliations, the collective aspiration for a harmonious Nasarawa State reigns supreme, transcending the partisan divide. These political rivals have set a precedent, demonstrating that in the face of uncertainty, unity and peace can prevail.
