The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has made a commitment to ensure that the Federal Government delivers electricity to communities in Nigeria that lack access to this essential service.
During a recent inspection and impact assessment of a 90KW solar hybrid mini-grid in Adafila, Ogbomoso, as part of his tour of power facilities, Adelabu emphasized the project’s potential to provide power to over 1,300 households, along with vital institutions such as clinics, schools, and small businesses within the community.
What sets this project apart is its use of solar panels integrated into the community, allowing for direct power distribution without reliance on the national grid. The system ensures 24-hour uninterrupted power supply, supported by 240 KW of battery storage to cater for nighttime energy needs.
Adelabu highlighted the significant impact of the solar hybrid mini-grid in lifting the community out of energy poverty, enabling individuals to enhance their businesses and leverage electricity to develop and sustain their livelihoods. He also expressed the government’s commitment to replicating such initiatives across Nigeria to fulfill President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda and deliver tangible benefits to grassroots populations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the minister also inspected the 132KV substations in Oyo and Ogbomoso, where the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, urged expedited work on transmission line installations at the newly-established 132KV substation in Ogbomoso, emphasizing the potential to enhance power supply to the ancient city.
Furthermore, the traditional ruler reaffirmed the dedication of Ogbomoso Indigenes to safeguarding power infrastructure and other government facilities in the town.
This initiative serves as a milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to bridge the electricity gap and uplift underserved communities, marking a crucial step towards driving sustainable development and prosperity.
