Nollywood actor, Samuel Ajibola, popularly known as “Spiff,” has openly admitted that his son bears a striking resemblance to former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Ajibola’s family faced cyberbullying in 2022 after sharing photos of their visit to Obasanjo, during which netizens noticed the uncanny likeness between his son and the ex-Nigerian leader.
Addressing the cyberbullying in a recent interview on Channels TV, the actor expressed that the assumption about Obasanjo being the “true father” of his son stemmed from a “misinformed position.” He clarified, “I won’t deny it, I’m saying this live on air. In that picture, my son does look like him there. But there are circumstances around it. And it’s still a picture. It’s a still picture. It’s a second. It’s a moment of which my son was just waking up from sleep when we arrived. So he was just booting and he had those eyebags. Those eyebags made him look like the former President.”
The contentious photos that sparked the public’s curiosity featured Ajibola, his wife, and their son alongside the former President. Ajibola revealed that his visit to Obasanjo was due to his role as the Youth Ambassador to the Youth Development Centre of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, emphasizing the mentorship and influence Obasanjo holds in his life. He further elaborated on the misconceptions that arose from the visit, emphasizing that the speculations about Obasanjo’s paternity were unfounded, attributing the visual resemblance to a fleeting moment captured in the photograph.
Ajibola’s candid acknowledgment sheds light on the impact of viral imagery and the repercussions of unfounded assumptions in the age of social media. This revelation also underscores the importance of discernment and critical thinking in the face of sensationalized claims, showcasing the complexities of navigating public scrutiny and misinterpretation in the digital era.
