In a dramatic turn of events, Chief Chinedu Eya, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial aspirant for Enugu North District, has issued a stern warning to the outgoing council chairmen in Enugu State. Eya has boldly advised them to prepare themselves for a thorough probe and potential prosecution.

Eya’s warning stems from the observed maladministration by some of the council chairmen. He firmly believes that they will not evade scrutiny, which is set to be initiated by Enugu State’s Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah.

Expressing his convictions on social media, Eya emphasized that Governor Mbah is likely to delve into the financial irregularities of the outgoing LG chairmen in Enugu State. He further asserted that only exceptionally prudent chairmen, whose achievements are substantiated, will be exempt from the impending investigation after stepping down from their positions.

Eya articulated, “I am not officially representing our esteemed Governor, but based on the actions taken since he assumed office at Lion Building, the outgoing LG chairmen should steel themselves for an intense probe and potential prosecution. As a leader committed to transforming the state through industrialization, Governor Mbah naturally abhors wastage and extravagance.”

Moreover, Eya emphasized that leaders with ambitious goals, such as Governor Mbah’s commitment to elevating the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from $4 billion to $30 billion, are inherently intolerant of frivolous spending and financial profligacy. This, according to Eya, is why he envisions the impending scrutiny of the outgoing LG chairmen.

With the tenure of the LG chairmen nearing its end, the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has scheduled council polls for February 24, 2024.

This warning from Eya has set the stage for a tense political climate in Enugu State, as the specter of probe and potential prosecution looms large over the outgoing local government chairmen. The ramifications of this warning are poised to reverberate throughout the state’s political landscape, raising questions about accountability and governance at the local level.
