Labour Party Initiates Edo State Election Nomination Process: Sales to Begin Soon

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party has greenlit the sales and submission of expression of interest and nomination forms for the Edo State election. The process is set to kick off from January 25 to February 11, 2024, as per a communique put forth by Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary of the party, after the NWC meeting held in Abuja.

In a bid to encourage gender inclusivity, the party has waived the expression of interest form fees for female aspirants. Obiora Ifoh, in the communiqué, mentioned, “NWC approved that the fees for expression of interest shall be five million naira only, while the nomination form shall be twenty-five million naira only.”

Moreover, the Committee has given the nod to indirect primary elections, with ward and local government congresses set to elect the party’s flag bearers. The timeline for the upcoming events is as follows: February 14 for the screening of aspirants, February 22 for the primary election, and February 23 for the resolution of any disputes or appeals arising from the primaries.

The approval of these guidelines marks a crucial step in the preparation for the Edo gubernatorial election. It showcases the party’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent process for all aspirants, thereby amplifying the democratic ethos within the political landscape. This move is poised to reignite the political fervor in Edo State as the election draws near.
