In an unexpected turn of events, Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, made a stunning disclosure regarding the support he received from prominent political figures in Kaduna State. Abbas revealed that both Uba Sani, the current governor of Kaduna, and his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, played pivotal roles in encouraging him to contest for the speakership long before the 2023 general elections. This revelation came to light during a visit to Abbas’ office by Governor Sani and the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal.

Expressing his gratitude, Abbas emphasized that Governor Sani and Minister Balarabe Lawal had been unwavering in their support since his early days as a federal lawmaker. He underscored that the idea of vying for the speakership originated from the encouragement of these influential figures, including his “elder brother,” former governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Abbas debunked misconceptions surrounding his relationship with Governor Sani, stating, “There will be no obstacle that will obstruct any communication, unity, harmony, mutual relationship between myself as the Speaker and my dear Governor of Kaduna State.” His remarks aimed to set an example of a harmonious alliance between a Speaker and a State Governor.

Governor Sani, speaking on behalf of the people of Kaduna State, expressed admiration for the Speaker’s leadership, acknowledging the pivotal role of the House of Representatives in national governance. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commendation of the House and its members for their commitment to promoting the best interests of Nigerians.

The visit also saw the presence of influential figures such as the Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and the Deputy Minority Whip, George Ozodinobi, further signifying the significance of the occasion.

The revelation not only sheds light on the dynamics of political relationships but also underscores the importance of support from key figures in shaping the leadership landscape, offering a rare glimpse into the interplay of power and influence at the highest levels of governance.
