Woman seeks dissolution of 27 year old marriage over husbands second wife

An Abuja-based businesswoman, Doris Unekwu, pleaded with the Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, on Thursday, to terminate her marriage due to the denial of her conjugal rights by her husband, Matthias.

Mrs. Unekwu, in a divorce petition, accused Matthias of engaging in masturbation, as well as physical and psychological abuse. She lamented that her husband had long ceased intimacy with her, despite her efforts to reignite the romance.

The petitioner recounted catching her husband red-handed in the act of masturbation, to which he callously attributed to something he had seen online and wished to emulate. She also revealed that Matthias often arrived home late, claiming to derive more pleasure outside than within their marriage.

In a shocking revelation, Mrs. Unekwu disclosed that her husband had resorted to physical violence, subjecting her to beatings in the presence of their children. She tearfully narrated the distressing pattern of relentless abuse and demanded custody of their only child, petitioning for the dissolution of their marriage.

Matthias, a businessman, fervently denied the allegations in court, but the presiding judge, Thelma Baba, implored the embattled couple to consider reconciliation. The case was adjourned with expectations for a possible settlement or further hearings.

This heart-wrenching tale of intimate deprivation, alleged abuse, and a yearning for justice underscores the profound complexities of marital relationships, unraveling a narrative that resonates far beyond the confines of the courtroom.
