In a groundbreaking move, the Osun State Government has issued a directive for the recovery of official vehicles that were unlawfully taken by political appointees during the Adegboyega Oyetola administration. This development comes as a significant revelation in the ongoing probe of corruption and mismanagement in the state.

The directive, outlined in a White Paper released by the state government, signifies a resolute stance against malfeasance and underscores the commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in governance. The White Paper also mandates the establishment of a task force dedicated to the recovery of government vehicles wrongfully appropriated by officials of the previous administration.

According to a statement signed by Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, the release of six White Papers signals a decisive step towards addressing the issues raised by the executive orders issued at the onset of the Adeleke administration in November 2022. The meticulous review and approval of these White Papers by the State Executive Council, further endorsed by a special committee chaired by Governor Adeleke, exemplify the administration’s unwavering commitment to due process, consultation, and adherence to the rule of law.

The White Papers cover a wide range of critical matters, including those of Committees on Chieftaincy Affairs, Contracts/Memorandum of Understanding/Agreements Review, Solid Minerals, Assets Inventory and Recovery, Staff Audit/Appointments/Promotions Review, and Education Summit. Each document represents a comprehensive and methodical approach to addressing systemic challenges and setting a new trajectory for good governance in Osun State.

The decision to pursue the recovery of government vehicles underscores the administration’s determination to rectify the alleged widespread looting of public property, as highlighted upon assuming office in November 2022. The staggering allegations of misappropriation, including the disappearance of official vehicles from the governor’s and deputy governor’s residences, have propelled the Adeleke administration to take swift and decisive action.

Furthermore, in a bold measure to secure the return of the misappropriated properties, the Adeleke administration has implemented the withholding of November salaries and severance packages for the implicated political appointees. This move not only signifies a firm stance against corruption but also serves as a potent deterrent against future misconduct within the government ranks.

As the Osun State Government embarks on this resolute path to restore accountability and transparency, the directive for the recovery of official vehicles stands as a remarkable testament to the unwavering commitment to ethical governance. This latest development marks a pivotal moment in the relentless pursuit of justice and integrity in public service, setting a compelling precedent for governments across the nation and beyond.
