The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has shed light on the ongoing electricity outages in parts of Gombe, Yola, and Bauchi states. According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the power disruptions are a result of planned maintenance of its power facilities.
Mbah disclosed that the maintenance, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, will span eight hours daily from 9 am to 5 pm. The focus of the maintenance is the T1A 150MVA, 330/132/33kV transformer bay, located in the region.
During the maintenance period, TCN’s maintenance crew will conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on the affected transformer bay. As a measure to minimize the impact, TCN will transfer the load from the T1A 150MVA transformer to its T2A 150MVA counterpart within the same substation.
This necessary maintenance will cause a temporary interruption of bulk power supply to Jos and Yola DisCos through the T1A transformer. However, TCN has assured that it will promptly restore bulk power supply through the transformer immediately after the maintenance exercise is completed.
The explanation from TCN provides clarity to the residents of the affected areas regarding the cause of the power outages. It also underscores the significance of regular maintenance in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure.
