Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has called for peace and respect for democratic processes in the state, following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election victory. In a press briefing, Governor Sule expressed gratitude to the judiciary and urged all citizens to uphold the rule of law.

The governor credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring a fair judicial process without interference. He commended the Supreme Court justices, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, for upholding the verdict in his favor. Sule emphasized that the apex court’s decision marks the resolution of all election-related issues, affirming his win in the March 18, 2023, polls.

While acknowledging the inevitability of opposition reactions to the ruling, Governor Sule stressed that the Supreme Court’s judgment is final and must be respected. He urged political maturity and called for unity in advancing the state’s development, extending an olive branch to his opponents.

Addressing concerns about protests following the verdict, Sule emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles and urged citizens to accept the court’s decision. He underscored the significance of respecting the rule of law and expressed readiness to collaborate with political rivals for the betterment of Nasarawa State.

The governor also highlighted the state’s potential for growth, citing its strategic location near Abuja, as well as its thriving agricultural and industrial sectors. Sule emphasized the need for collective efforts in harnessing the state’s resources for sustainable development.

The Supreme Court’s judgment overturned the earlier decision of the State Election Petitions Tribunal, reinstating Governor Sule and dismissing the appeal of his challenger, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor’s appeal for peace and unity in the aftermath of the verdict reflects his commitment to democratic values and the progress of Nasarawa State.
