Abia Official Condemns Delayed Treatment for Accident Victims

Mayor Victor Ikeji, the Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area in Abia State, has strongly criticized the delayed treatment of patients, especially accident and gunshot victims, whose conditions require urgent care.

During a recent meeting with owners of private medical facilities in Umuahia North council, Ikeji urged healthcare providers to prioritize saving lives over financial concerns. He expressed disappointment that some patients were not promptly attended to due to a lack of upfront payment, emphasizing that timely intervention could have significantly improved their chances of survival.

In addition to advocating for a commitment to the Hippocratic Oath, Ikeji raised concerns about the refusal to treat gunshot victims in the absence of a police report. He emphasized that not all individuals with gunshot wounds are involved in criminal activities and urged medical practitioners to prioritize immediate medical attention before the submission of a police report.

The local government chairman’s call to action underscores the fundamental principle of placing human life above financial considerations. By encouraging medical professionals to prioritize emergency care and reconsider existing protocols, Mayor Victor Ikeji is aiming to ensure that every individual in need of urgent medical attention receives prompt and compassionate treatment.
