The All Progressives Congress (APC) has made an announcement regarding the availability of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the Edo Governorship Election. According to Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, these forms are open for purchase and collection by all interested aspirants. This development was communicated through a statement released in Abuja on Friday.
Morka revealed that a committee, to be constituted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in line with its Constitution, will handle the screening and clearance of aspirants.
Highlighting the party’s timetable and schedule of activities for the Edo gubernatorial election, Morka emphasized that interested aspirants are required to make prescribed payments into the party’s approved bank accounts and obtain their Expression of Interest and Nomination forms from the party’s National Secretariat.
So far, out of the 29 governorship aspirants within the party, only one has acquired the APC Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, which are being sold at #50,000,000 (Fifty million naira).
Duro Meseko, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, disclosed during a recent news conference that the APC plans to adopt direct primaries for selecting candidates for the Edo governorship election scheduled for Sept. 21. Meseko highlighted that this decision was the outcome of the party’s NWC consultative meeting with Edo stakeholders.
Furthermore, Meseko urged the stakeholders to come together in reducing the number of aspirants involved in the race and encouraged them to adhere to the rules. He emphasized the importance of utilizing internal party dispute resolution mechanisms instead of resorting to legal action at the slightest provocation.
This announcement by the APC sets the stage for an intriguing political contest in the build-up to the Edo Governorship Election.
