In a candid revelation, Nigerian singer, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, opened up about the challenges he faced pursuing his passion for music. Despite his family’s lack of support, Spyro persevered, eventually achieving success in the music industry.

During an episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, Spyro disclosed that his father, a pastor, discouraged his pursuit of music, just as he had previously thwarted Spyro’s aspirations to become a fine artist. Seemingly at odds with his father’s wishes, Spyro embraced music, even resorting to selling recharge cards to finance his studio time and song recordings. He expressed, “It was war. But I knew it was what God has called me to do.”

Reflecting on his early affinity for music, Spyro recounted his involvement in the church choir during his primary school years, where his talent was widely acknowledged. Despite his father’s opposition, Spyro remained resolute in following his musical calling.

Following persistent dedication, Spyro’s breakthrough came with the viral success of his song ‘Who Is Your Guy,’ propelling him into the spotlight. The remix of the song featuring Tiwa Savage earned him the prestigious Best Collaboration of the Year award at the 2023 Headies Awards.

Spyro’s story serves as an inspiring testament to the resilience and determination required to pursue one’s passions, overcoming familial obstacles to achieve personal and professional fulfillment. His journey stands as a reminder that unwavering belief in one’s dreams can lead to extraordinary accomplishments, resonating with aspiring artists and individuals facing similar obstacles around the globe.
