A man, Ademola Oladimeji, has been handed four life imprisonment sentences by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for sexually assaulting his three young daughters in Lagos, Nigeria.
The distressing case unfolded as the court heard that Oladimeji’s daughters, aged five, seven, and nine, were subjected to heinous acts of sexual assault. In delivering the judgment, Justice Abiola Soladoye emphasized the reliability and truthfulness of the prosecution witnesses’ testimonies.
While addressing the harrowing details of the case, Mrs. Soladoye clarified that the evidence substantiated the charges of sexual assault by penetration, rather than mere defilement. She highlighted the children’s unwavering accounts of their father’s misconduct, corroborated by both the investigative police officer and their mother.
Mrs. Soladoye expressed, “The children gave unshaken testimonies of how their father tampered with their innocence by inserting his fingers into their vaginas. The conduct of the defendant was described as despicable, morally corrupt, and against the order of nature.”
Despite the defendant’s denial of the accusations, Mrs. Soladoye noted, “The court holds that there was penetration, as the evidence pointed to the fact that the defendant violated the purity of his three children.”
The gravity of the offenses led to Oladimeji being convicted on each count of sexual assault by penetration, resulting in four life imprisonment sentences to be served concurrently. Moreover, the judge decreed that the convict’s name be registered in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register to ensure accountability for his reprehensible actions.
Throughout the proceedings, the state counsel, Olufunke Adegoke, presented compelling evidence, with five witnesses supporting the prosecution’s case, while the defendant testified as the sole witness.
This ruling serves as a resounding call for justice and accountability in cases of such egregious nature. The conviction stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of vulnerable individuals within the society.
This milestone in the Nigerian judicial system emphasizes the imperative of addressing and condemning acts of sexual violence, thereby ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all.
