APC Appeals to Tinubu to Intervene in Osun State Crisis

In a bid to address a burgeoning crisis in Osun State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene. The party has decried the suspension of the installation processes of Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo and urged for immediate action to rectify the situation.
The Osun State Government issued a White Paper on Thursday, January 18, 2024, ordering the suspension of the installation processes of the traditional rulers and calling for fresh selection processes. Additionally, the State Government directed the suspension of the selection processes of the Akirun of Ikinrun and Alawo of Awo until the final determination of cases in court.
Tajudeen Lawal, the Osun APC chairman, expressed concerns over alleged harassment of its members by the state government in reaction to the White Paper. He emphasized that the White Paper diversionary tactic was an attempt to mask underlying issues of governance and accountability.
Lawal accused Governor Adeleke of orchestrating a Task Force comprised of PDP thugs and notorious criminals to provoke law-abiding citizens and incite violence by forcefully retrieving vehicles approved for past government functionaries. He condemned the governor’s decision to target traditional rulers based on political presumptions as divisive and irresponsible leadership.
Describing the cancellation of the selection processes as “subjudice,” Lawal criticized Governor Adeleke for acting as a judge in his own case and warned of potential widespread lawlessness if the situation is not managed effectively. Lawal urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to revert to the status quo ante pending the outcome of the law suits filed by the affected parties to avert impending chaos in the state.
The APC’s appeal to President Bola Tinubu underscores the severity of the situation, indicating the significance and potential ramifications of the crisis in Osun State. As tensions continue to simmer, the involvement of prominent figures and authorities is deemed crucial in steering the state away from the brink of turmoil.
