In preparation for the upcoming state assembly by-election in Chibok constituency of Borno, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced its proactive engagement with key stakeholders to guarantee a smooth electoral process. Mr Abba Liberty, the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Borno, emphasized the commission’s efforts to collaborate with various participants, including security agencies, to secure the electoral environment.
“We have been engaging security agencies and they have assured us of enough security,” said Mr. Liberty during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.
The Chibok by-election comes as a result of the unfortunate passing of the initial winner of the 2023 election, late Nuhu Clerk. Notable candidates vying for the February 3 by-election include Abdullahi Gambo of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hamid Zamzam of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Lawan Pagu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Lawan of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Haruna Shettima of the Action People’s Party (APP), Habila Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Maina Sheriff of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
With INEC’s diligence in engaging stakeholders and ensuring security measures, the stage is set for a significant electoral event in Chibok, Borno State.
