Four girls who were rescued from the Al-Kadriyar family after enduring a harrowing two-week kidnapping ordeal will be provided with comprehensive rehabilitation by the Federal Government. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, underscored this commitment after visiting the girls at a medical facility where they are currently receiving treatment.
“The ministry will closely monitor their recovery and provide immediate support upon their discharge from the facility. This includes engaging a psychologist to help them overcome the trauma they experienced during their captivity,” she asserted. The minister also advocated for the relocation of the girls to a safer school environment and suggested that one of them should complete her National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) at the ministry.
Expressing gratitude towards the army, police, and other security agencies for their collaboration in securing the release of the girls, Kennedy-Ohanenye highlighted the President’s concern over the alarming surge in kidnapping cases. “President Bola Tinubu is deeply worried about this trend of kidnapping and is diligently working towards addressing the situation. I will personally update the President and First Lady about the condition of these girls following this visit,” she added.
As part of the preparatory plans for the girls’ rehabilitation, the minister presented them with food beverages, soap, noodles, and sanitary items.
Al-Kadriyar Monsoor, the father of the rescued girls, expressed appreciation to the government and security agencies for their efforts. He urged the federal government to enhance synergy among various security agencies and emphasized the importance of community-based intelligence sharing to bolster the nation’s security architecture.
“Bwari is bordered by four states, making the area vulnerable to invasions. The government should strengthen community-based intelligence and communication to ensure the safety of lives at the grassroots level of our country,” he remarked.
The girls were abducted from their residence in the Zuma 1 area of Bwari Area Council on January 2nd. Tragically, the failure of the family to meet the kidnappers’ demands within the stipulated deadline led to the killing of one of the daughters, Nabeeha. Subsequently, they were rescued by the FCT Anti-Kidnapping squad in collaboration with the Nigerian Army troops around the Kajuru forest in Kaduna state.
As the government intensifies efforts to combat kidnapping and support victims, the nation awaits the successful rehabilitation and integration of these young survivors into society.
