In a momentous occasion, the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna is set to hold its 31st and 32nd convocation on February 1, 2024, at the institution’s main campus in Niger State. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farouk Adamu Kuta, announced that a staggering 187 students will be graduating with first-class honors in the 2020–2021 and 2022–2023 academic sessions.
During a press briefing, Prof. Kuta unveiled that a total of 7,312 students will be awarded first degrees, with an additional 120 receiving postgraduate diplomas, 955 obtaining master’s degrees, and 150 attaining doctorate degrees. This remarkable feat solidifies FUT Minna’s commitment to academic excellence and underscores the dedication of its graduating cohort.
Amid the surging student enrollment, the university embraced an innovative e-learning approach for its 100-level students to mitigate challenges stemming from limited lecture rooms and faculty resources. Prof. Kuta emphasized the efficacy of online platforms for teaching, e-tests, and examinations, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, heralding a significant advancement in traditional teaching methods within Nigeria.
Furthermore, FUT Minna’s academic courses have garnered full accreditation status from the National Universities Commission (NUC), signaling a resounding stamp of approval for the quality of education offered. Notably, the institution is gearing up to welcome an international accrediting body, poised to elevate FUT Minna onto the global academic stage.
In the realm of research, the university’s collaborative endeavors have attracted substantial funding, with over N844 million secured from the National Research Grant of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and an additional five million euros from the European Commission. This financial injection will fuel an EU-AU partnership project titled Resilient, Inclusive, and Safe Food System for Everyone (UP-RISE), a testament to FUT Minna’s impactful contributions to cutting-edge research initiatives.
Moreover, the VC underscored FUT Minna’s tremendous strides in infrastructural development, extensive affiliations, and partnerships with esteemed institutions and research agencies.
