The Struggle of Victor Osimhen: Former Super Eagles Defender Expresses Concern About Striker’s Performance at AFCON 2023

Victor Osimhen, the prolific striker for Napoli and Nigeria, is facing a challenging time at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, as former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze believes his confidence has waned.

Amid mounting expectations and pressure to deliver goals for Nigeria, Osimhen has only managed to find the net once in three matches. Udeze expressed his observations on a radio show, highlighting that the striker appears to be grappling with the weight of expectations.

In an interview with Brila FM, Udeze remarked, “The pressure is affecting him and I think his confidence level has dropped a little bit whenever he faces the opponent’s goalpost, so he needs to get his confidence back.”

The 25-year-old, known for his clinical finishing, has visibly struggled to convert promising goal-scoring opportunities for Jose Peseiro’s side. It is evident that Udeze’s insight raises concerns about Osimhen’s current form and mental state on the field.

As Nigeria prepares to clash with Cameroon in the AFCON round of 16, all eyes will be on Osimhen to rediscover his scoring touch and alleviate the pressure surrounding his performance.

The outcome of this encounter could potentially define Osimhen’s journey at AFCON and shape Nigeria’s prospects in the tournament. It remains to be seen if he can overcome this trying phase and reignite his prowess in front of goal.
