In a pivotal move, the Yobe State House of Assembly has approved the 2024 local government areas’ harmonized budget, amounting to a substantial N71,167,000,000.00 to cater to both recurrent and capital expenditures.
The momentous decision came swiftly after the house adopted the report of its joint standing committees on local governments and chieftaincy affairs and that of finance and appropriation on the 2024 local government areas’ harmonized budget.
Chairman of the House committee on local governments and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Mohammed Ali, lauded the allocation within the 2024 local governments’ harmonized budget, with N28,642,000,000.00 earmarked for recurrent expenditure while over N42,524,000,000.00 is assigned for capital services.
Emphasizing the far-reaching impact of the harmonized budget, Ali highlighted its intended utilization in crucial sectors such as water supply, health, and agriculture, aimed at creating job opportunities for the youth populace across the 17 local government areas of the state.
Underlining the significance of revenue generation, the committee’s chairman underscored the need for the ministry for local governments and chieftaincy affairs to institute a standardized revenue collection mechanism, ensuring robust revenue generation and remittance at the local government level.
Furthermore, a clarion call was made to the local government caretaker management committees, urging them to meticulously adhere to due process in the execution of the 2024 harmonized budget. This was articulated with the goal of promoting transparency and accountability in all financial transactions.
Reflecting on the unity and efficiency demonstrated during budget deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon, Chiroma Buba Mashio, commended the unwavering commitment and collaborative efforts of the members, culminating in the expeditious approval of the budget.
