The Police Command in Kano State is prepared to ensure security during the re-run elections to be held on February 3 across six local government areas. In a recent address to the press, Police Commissioner Mr. Hussaini Gumel highlighted the readiness of the police and other security agencies to guarantee a crisis-free election. He emphasized the deployment of armed personnel and outlined an operational strategy for securing polling units before, during, and after the elections.
Gumel provided assurance to law-abiding residents, emphasizing their freedom to exercise their voting rights without fear for their safety or property. He also called for political party leaders and candidates to discourage their supporters from engaging in violence and thuggery, warning of strict consequences, including arrest and prosecution, for those disobeying the regulations.
In a separate statement, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Amb. Abdu Zango, confirmed the finalization of arrangements for the re-run elections in the three affected state constituencies: Kunchi/Tsanyawa, Kura/Garun Malam, and Rimin Gado/Tofa. Zango underlined the readiness of electoral personnel to conduct transparent and credible elections in the 66 polling units across the six local government areas. He emphasized the mandatory requirement of a permanent voter card for participation and the use of BVAS machines to ensure fairness and credibility.
Both officials expressed optimism about the upcoming re-run elections, affirming their commitment to a successful, transparent, and peaceful electoral process. With these preparations in place, the focus now shifts to the electorate, who hold the power to shape the future leadership through their votes.
