The Police Service Commission (PSC) has greenlit the appointment of Dasuki Galadanci as Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) and the elevation of 1,897 senior police officers. This decision, disclosed by Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations of PSC, marks a significant development within the Nigerian law enforcement community.

Galadanci’s appointment as the new DIG responsible for representing the North West Geopolitical zone comes following his role as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 12 Bauchi. His ascent will see him replace Mr. Ibrahim Ka’oje, the current DIG representing the zone, who is set to retire on Feb. 2.

In addition to Galadanci’s appointment, the commission also announced the promotion of 14 Commissioners of Police to the rank of AIG, 21 Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners, and 20 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners. Notably, one commissioner initially up for promotion to AIG had their promotion deferred to facilitate a review of pending disciplinary matters.

The newly promoted AIGs include Yetunde Longe, Haruna Garba, Tajudeen Abass, Rex Dundun, Durosinmi Olatoye, Afolabi Adeniyi, Abiodun Asabi, Julius Okoro, George Chuku, Paul Omata, Yusuf Akeem, Bzigu Dali, Idris Nagoyo, and Ogundare Emmanuel.

Furthermore, the commission endorsed the elevation of 109 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners, while 184 Superintendents of Police were raised to the rank of Chief Superintendent. Additionally, 1,549 Assistant Superintendents of Police were approved for promotion to Deputy Superintendents of Police.

This decision has been communicated to the Inspector-General of Police for implementation. Dr. Solomon Arase, Chairman of PSC, presided over the commission’s management meeting and implored the promoted officers to acclimate swiftly to their new roles in order to combat the surge in banditry, kidnapping, and violent crimes across the nation.

Arase underscored the pressing need for proactive measures to stem the tide of criminal activities and urged the officers to map out strategies for swift and resolute intervention. He emphasized that as senior officers, they bear the responsibility for upholding the security apparatus of the nation and should leverage their new ranks as a rallying call for unwavering dedication to serving the country.

The current trend of events has left the commission dissatisfied, as the nation confronts an unprecedented wave of criminal assaults on various fronts. The urgency to address this challenge underscores the gravity of the task at hand for the newly appointed and promoted officers.

This decisive move by the PSC to appoint a new DIG and bolster the ranks of senior police officers signals a strategic response to the escalating security concerns in Nigeria. It represents a crucial step in fortifying the nation’s law enforcement framework, underscoring the imperative of steadfast commitment to safeguarding the citizenry.

This development stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts to bolster the capacity and resilience of law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, as they confront the complex and evolving landscape of security threats. The global community will be watching closely as these newly appointed and promoted officers assume their pivotal roles in the fight against crime and uphold the integrity and security of the nation.
