The Benue State Education Quality Assurance Agency (BSEQAA) has taken a firm stand to ensure fairness for SS3 students by instructing school principals to immediately refund any excess charges levied for WAEC/NECO examinations. This directive was issued by the Director-General of the agency, Dr. Francis Terna, during his visit to schools in the state capital, Makurdi.
Dr. Terna engaged SS3 students in various schools to ascertain the amount they had paid for their WAEC and NECO examination fees. Upon confirming the overcharging, he wasted no time in demanding that the principals reimburse the students for the excess fees. In addition, he mandated all schools to adhere strictly to the approved handling charges of N5000 per student.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding high standards and ensuring academic excellence, Dr. Terna warned that any school found flouting the directive would face appropriate sanctions. He also stated that the BSEQAA would continue its random visits to schools to monitor their operations and guarantee compliance with regulations.
Furthermore, to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar, the government has reiterated its prohibition of admitting SS3 students during the second term. Dr. Terna also rigorously inspected form masters’ registers, schemes and records of work, as well as lesson plans during his school visits.
The schools visited included RCM Primary School in Tiosha, UBE Junior Secondary School on Naka Road, NKST Secondary School on Naka Road, and Mount Carmel College in Makurdi.
This development underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to fairness and transparency in the education sector.
