In a bid to foster unity and tackle security challenges, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has extended an invitation to all former governors of the state, including Senator Sani Ahmed Yarima, Alhaji Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, and the Minister of State for Defense, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Governor Lawal has invited them to the official inauguration of the local security outfit, Community Protection Guards (CPG), aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state. The event is expected to be graced by governors from the Northwest and other prominent individuals from the northern part of the country.

In a statement issued by the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Hon. Mukhtar Lugga, who also serves as the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Governor Lawal emphasized the need for the former governors to set aside their differences and work together for the progress of the state. He pledged to uphold fairness, openness, and transparency in his personal and official interactions, in line with his oath of office.

Zamfara State has been plagued by over a decade of banditry, resulting in loss of lives, kidnappings, and property destruction. The Community Protection Guards (CPG) initiative was launched by Governor Dauda Lawal to address the ongoing security challenges, following the recruitment of 4,200 guards from the 14 Local Government Areas a few months ago.

With hopes for a united front against insecurity, Governor Lawal’s gesture signifies a step towards reconciliation and collaboration for the greater good of Zamfara State.
