The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro Emegha, has declared that the council chairmen of the thirteen Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state will not be eligible for a second term in office.
Emegha issued a stern warning to the council chairmen, emphasizing that they should prioritize efforts to ensure the APC’s victory in the upcoming Ebonyi South senatorial bye-election, slated for February 3, 2024.
Speaking at a meeting with stakeholders of the Ebonyi South senatorial zone, Emegha urged all party leaders and political appointees from the southern senatorial zone to work towards securing victory for the APC in their respective wards.
He cautioned that any political appointee or party leader who fails to deliver their ward to the opposition party in the forthcoming election may risk losing their position or appointment in the state.
Emegha emphasized, “The Party has made it clear that any serving council chairman should not entertain the thought of seeking a second term in office. The success of the APC in the forthcoming Ebonyi South senatorial bye-election is non-negotiable. The efforts of the serving council chairmen and councillors will be closely monitored before they can consider running for office again. Additionally, all political appointees of the state government are under scrutiny. Failure to convincingly win at least 80 percent of their wards may result in the loss of their positions.”
Furthermore, Emegha underscored the governor’s authority to dissolve his cabinet at his discretion, highlighting the need for stakeholders to prioritize the success of the APC’s senatorial candidate, Prof. Anthony Okorie Ani, in the upcoming election.
The APC Chairman’s announcement sets the stage for a significant political shift in Ebonyi State, as the party intensifies its efforts to consolidate its stronghold in the region ahead of the crucial bye-election.
