In an effort to address the long-standing issue of unpaid gratuities for civil servants, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has established a committee tasked with clearing the backlog of gratuities from 2015 to 2017. This development aims to bring relief to the affected workers and retirees who have been awaiting their rightful compensation.
The committee, which includes representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has been mandated to oversee the payment process. According to a statement from the State NLC Acting Secretary, Ahmed Abubakar, eligible beneficiaries are required to convene at the Ministry of Finance on January 27, 2024, with verified documents certifying their retirement from service.
Furthermore, the Governor has instructed local government retirees from 2011 to 2013 to assemble at the Ministry for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs on the same date, to undergo a similar process with the necessary documentation. This inclusive approach demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that all eligible individuals receive their overdue gratuities.
During the verification exercise, individuals are expected to present approved computed pay slips, retirement notifications, identification cards, and bank account details. The successful execution of this initiative hinges on the full cooperation and participation of all affected parties.
Expressing gratitude for the Governor’s proactive intervention, the statement concluded with a heartfelt prayer for the Governor’s continued guidance and success in his endeavors to uplift Zamfara State. This initiative signifies a step forward in addressing the longstanding issue of unpaid gratuities and underscores the government’s dedication to the welfare of its civil servants.
