Simi Reveals: “I’ve Never Charged for a Feature”

In a candid conversation on the Tea With Tay podcast, Nigerian singer Simi Kosoko made a surprising revelation – she does not charge artists for a feature in their songs. The renowned artist, also known as the mother of one, emphasized her selective approach, stating that she only collaborates on songs she genuinely likes.

“Till this moment, I have never charged for a feature,” Simi affirmed, shedding light on her principles. “For me to do a feature, I have to really like it. I have to like the song. If I like the song, give me half a day, I am done. If I don’t like the song, I will most likely say no. It’s not personal. I can take a ‘No’. Things are not personal, it’s just what it is.”

Simi’s stance sets her apart in an industry where collaborations often involve financial transactions. Her commitment to the music itself, rather than financial gain, underscores the authenticity she brings to her craft. This revelation offers a glimpse into the artist’s unwavering dedication to her art and her desire to be genuinely moved by the music she contributes to.

Simi’s approach exemplifies a refreshing sincerity, challenging the prevalent commercial norms in the music industry. Her statement is a testament to her artistic integrity, shaping a narrative that speaks to her passion for meaningful collaborations and the emotive power of music.
