FRSC Reports 604 Deaths and 1,196 Road Crashes in Oyo, Osun, and Ondo in 2023

In a recent press briefing in Osogbo, Meshach Jatau, the Zonal Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) for Osun, Oyo, and Ondo States, disclosed alarming statistics on road accidents for the year 2023. A total of 604 fatalities and 1,196 road crashes were recorded during this period, with an additional 3,266 individuals sustaining injuries.

Jatau further highlighted that 7,833 individuals were involved in these road accidents, and 3,963 were successfully rescued by the FRSC within the 12-month timeframe. Moreover, the commission intercepted 72,388 drivers for various traffic violations, demonstrating their commitment to enforcing road safety regulations. Additionally, 40,338 individuals received educational outreach regarding road safety measures.

While emphasizing the FRSC’s dedication to ensuring the safety of highways, Jatau urged his personnel to execute their duties with professionalism in order to enhance security and minimize potential risks on the roads. He concluded by affirming the commission’s ongoing collaboration with transport stakeholders to develop strategies aimed at improving overall highway safety.

The revealed statistics serve as a stark reminder of the critical importance of road safety measures and the enforcement of traffic regulations.
