In a series of successful clearance operations in the North-West region of Nigeria, the Nigerian Army has made significant strides in the fight against terrorism and banditry. The operations led to the neutralization of 10 terrorists, the arrest of a notorious bandit’s kingpin, and the apprehension of arms smugglers, marking a major victory in the ongoing efforts to secure the region.

According to Capt. Yagata Ibrahim, the Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin Daji, the troops carried out coordinated dry season clearance operations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Katsina States. The operations yielded multiple successes, including the destruction of terrorists’ enclaves and the recovery of a substantial amount of arms and ammunitions.

During a recent clearance operation in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State, the troops cleared and destroyed terrorists’ enclaves in Pada, Matso-Matso, and Yurlumu villages. Seven terrorists were neutralized, and arms, including an AK47 rifle and ammunition, were seized. Similarly, in Zamfara, OPHD troops neutralized two terrorists and recovered weapons in separate engagements.

Notably, the troops also responded to intelligence reports, leading to the arrest of a notorious bandit leader, Usman Abubakar, also known as (Harinde), in Zamfara. Abubakar, who had been terrorizing Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs in Sokoto State, was apprehended following a well-coordinated operation based on actionable intelligence.

The success of the operations extended to the interception of notorious gunrunners in Shinkafi, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of a substantial amount of cash, a vehicle, and mobile phones. Additionally, a collaborative effort between the troops and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) led to the arrest of a terrorists’ collaborator, Ibrahim Atiku, in Katsina state.

All the suspects are undergoing preliminary investigation before being handed over to the appropriate security agencies for further actions, demonstrating the comprehensive and meticulous approach of the Nigerian Army in addressing security threats.

The achievements of the Nigerian troops in the North-West region underscore the commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens. The successful operations serve as a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of the security forces in combating terrorism and banditry, ultimately fostering peace and stability in the region.
