Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, has emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address the prevailing insecurity in northern Nigeria. Speaking at the 10th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture and Merit Award, Governor Zulum stressed the significance of infrastructural development, educational reform, healthcare improvement, empowerment, and job creation as effective measures for combating insecurity in the region.

During his keynote address, themed ‘Creating Pathways for Peace: Tackling Banditry and Insurgency through Good Governance for Sustainable Development,’ Governor Zulum underscored the critical role of good governance in preventing future insurgencies, especially in the aftermath of the Boko Haram crisis. He highlighted the importance of addressing the root causes of insurgency, emphasizing the significance of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in tackling the security challenges.

Governor Zulum further elaborated on the initiatives undertaken by the Borno State Government to combat various forms of insecurity. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to promoting good governance and security through a series of projects aimed at addressing the underlying issues contributing to the state’s security concerns.

In support of Governor Zulum’s stance, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation and former Governor of Niger State, attributed the surge in banditry and other forms of insecurity to deeply rooted socio-economic and governance issues.

The call for a multi-faceted strategy to combat insecurity in northern Nigeria resonates with the growing need for sustainable solutions to the region’s complex security challenges. As Governor Zulum’s advocacy gains momentum, it highlights the imperative for holistic development and governance reform to foster lasting peace and security in the region.
