The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has called on countries worldwide to swiftly phase out their dependence on fossil fuels. Speaking at the inaugural International Day of Clean Energy celebration, Guterres emphasized the urgent need to transition towards clean energy, describing it as a crucial and unavoidable imperative.

In his address, Guterres underscored that the elimination of fossil fuels is not only essential but also an unavoidable reality. He urged governments to take decisive action to expedite the shift, with major emitters leading the charge.

The UN Secretary-General’s remarks come in the wake of the COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where world leaders officially endorsed the global transition away from fossil fuels.

Guterres emphasized that clean energy is a precious commodity that should be embraced by the entire world. His call to action reflects a growing consensus on the critical importance of reducing reliance on fossil fuels and accelerating the adoption of sustainable energy sources for a greener future.
