Qatar Charity Foundation Initiates Multi-Faceted Aid Projects in Borno, Nigeria

In a significant development for the state of Borno, Governor Babagana Zulum has officially launched the commencement of eight vital projects sponsored by the Qatar Charity Foundation in Maiduguri. These impactful initiatives encompass the construction of an orphanage, a school, a clinic, staff quarters, a sports ground, a charity office, a Juma’at mosque, and shops.

During the inauguration ceremony in Maiduguri, Governor Zulum expressed profound appreciation to the Foundation for selecting Borno as the beneficiary of these crucial projects, recognizing the direct and positive impact they will have on the lives of the people. He highlighted the dire consequences of the Boko Haram insurgency, emphasizing the staggering number of orphans – over 100,000 officially documented – that have been left in the wake of the crisis. Additionally, he noted the extensive destruction of healthcare facilities, residences, and educational infrastructure, underscoring the magnitude of the challenges faced by the people of Borno.

Governor Zulum affirmed his commitment to facilitating the successful implementation of the projects, offering 2.5 hectares of land for the foundation’s use and pledging unwavering governmental support. He directed the Secretary to the State Government to expedite the approval process for all requests from the foundation, underscoring the administration’s dedication to this vital humanitarian effort.

In a pivotal announcement, Hamdin Bin-Abdul, the foundation’s representative, revealed plans to expand their humanitarian services to cover all 27 local government areas of Borno. The foundation’s scope of work encompasses critical sectors such as water resources, social housing, economic empowerment, health, education, and social services, reflecting a comprehensive approach to addressing the multifaceted needs of the community.

The occasion culminated in a symbolic gesture as Governor Zulum presented the Certificate of Occupancy to the foundation, signifying the official commencement of the collaborative efforts.
