ECOWAS Not Formally Notified of Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Withdrawal Plans

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has issued a statement asserting that it has not received formal notification of withdrawal from the bloc by Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, despite their announcements on national television.

ECOWAS, a union of 15 West African countries, clarified that it has yet to directly receive formal notification from the three member states regarding their intention to withdraw from the community. The Commission, following the directive of the Authority of Heads of State and Government, is actively engaged in efforts to restore constitutional order in the affected countries.

A spokesperson for ECOWAS emphasized the continued significance of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali within the community, reaffirming the Authority’s dedication to seeking a negotiated resolution to their political challenges. As the situation continues to develop, the Commission has assured that it will issue further statements.
