Just two days before the rerun election in Plateau Northern Senatorial zone, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming polls.

Mohammed Haruna, an INEC National Commissioner, made this revelation during the inspection of sensitive materials for the election in Jos, the State Capital. Haruna cited a Supreme Court ruling in Labour versus INEC, stating that disqualified candidates and political parties cannot participate in a rerun election.

Reacting to this exclusion, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state, represented by its chairman Abubakar Dogara, expressed strong disapproval. Dogara emphasized that if the PDP is barred from participating, then no political party should take part in the election.

IPAC insists that the Court of Appeal had ruled that all political parties should participate in the election. Dogara further highlighted the lack of communication regarding the participation of political parties just two days before the election.

Dogara stressed the importance of maintaining peace in Plateau over the election, underscoring the fragility of the situation and the need to avoid any actions that could jeopardize peace in the region.
