In a surprising turn of events, four candidates have withdrawn from the by-election for Chikun Constituency of the Kaduna State House of Assembly in support of Mr. Jesse David Tanko, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This unprecedented display of unity comes as a strategic move to consolidate efforts and secure victory for the APC.
The candidates who have stepped down in favor of Tanko are Zipporah Samuel Bijeh of the Accord Party, David Sunday of the Zenith Labour Party, Idris Inuwa of the Social Democratic Party, and David Ogah Batholomew of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Idris Inuwa, speaking on behalf of the four candidates, made the announcement during a press briefing in Kaduna. He highlighted the exceptional leadership demonstrated by Governor Uba Sani in Kaduna State and expressed confidence that aligning with the APC will facilitate the realization of beneficial projects for the constituency.
“We entered the contest to represent Chikun, for our people to enjoy the dividends of democracy and among the candidates, we believe the APC candidate can do that. So we felt the need to support him to win the election,” Inuwa stated. He emphasized the governor’s commitment to development and inclusivity, underscoring the importance of having a House member in the same political party as the governor for the seamless delivery of democratic dividends in the constituency.
The decision to rally behind the APC candidate underscores a rare manifestation of political collaboration aimed at promoting collective progress and efficient governance. The forthcoming by-election is poised to witness the impact of this strategic alliance as the APC endeavors to secure a resounding victory, fortified by the support of erstwhile opponents.
