The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed that kidnappers and other bandits operating in Abuja will see fire for fire.
Wike vowed that the criminals will no longer be allowed to sleep as security agents would take the war against crime to their camps.
He said that since the bandits have made it their stock in trade to cause the people to lose their sleep in Abuja, they too will not sleep.
Wike was speaking at the flag off of the construction of the Paikon-Kore Road in Gwagwalada Council Area of Abuja.
According to the report by Channels Television, he said, “I have assured you before that we are going to take this fight against them head-on. Today, you can see that we are not letting them go. I told you all these criminals would run away.
“We will make sure they don’t sleep again. If they say we will not sleep, they too will not sleep. A child that says the mother will not sleep, will he sleep? So, we are taking the war to them head-on. Let them wait for us, they will see fire for fire.”
In recent times, banditry and kidnapping have been on the rise in the FCT, with several innocent people kidnapped for ransom. Some people have also been killed by the criminal elements over delay from their families to meet up with the deadline for the ransom.
The rising insecurity in Abuja has sparked a wave of concern from Nigerians, with many calling on the authorities to do something about it.
Many are hoping that, just as Wike, has promised, the menace will be tackled.
