INEC Assures Smooth By-Election in Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba State is fully prepared to conduct a seamless election in the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, has confirmed this commitment during the distribution of sensitive materials just days before the scheduled election on Saturday.

Gajiram emphasized that the commission has learned crucial lessons from past elections and is dedicated to ensuring a transparent, fair, and credible electoral process. “We have taken all necessary measures at the very high levels to ensure that these elections go on smoothly. This is to make sure that everything is in place on time,” he stated.

Highlighting the distribution of sensitive materials as a crucial step, Gajiram reiterated the commission’s commitment to a hitch-free by-election in the state and the country at large. He also mentioned extensive security meetings in Jalingo and Abuja, expressing confidence in the implemented security measures.

Gajiram reassured the public that efforts have been made to prevent any unpleasant experiences during the electoral process. “Let me use this opportunity to call on all the players to exercise caution and play by the rules. It is an election and not a war. I also want to assure the voters to come out in mass and exercise their right to choose their representative,” he urged.

The upcoming by-election is set to take place in 652 polling units across three local government councils on Saturday. The vacancy arose when the previously elected member, Isma’la Mahanchi, passed away before his inauguration in the 2923 general election.
