DSS Issues Warning Ahead of Bye-elections to Prevent Unrest

The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a stern warning to all involved parties in the upcoming February 3, 2024 bye-elections, urging them to avoid any actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.

In a statement released by Peter Afunanya, the Director of PR & Strategic Communications at the DSS National Headquarters in Abuja, the agency emphasized the need for all stakeholders to prioritize the peace of the country over their personal or group interests. Afunanya also affirmed the DSS’s commitment to collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other security and law enforcement agencies, and all relevant parties to ensure a smooth and trouble-free election process.

Furthermore, the DSS reiterated its proactive approach to maintaining stability in the country and cautioned individuals involved in subversive activities to abstain from such actions. The agency warned that it would not hesitate to enforce the full weight of the law against any violators, regardless of their standing in society.
