Security Tight as Akwa Ibom Prepares for Key By-Election

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is leaving nothing to chance as they prepare for the federal constituency by-election scheduled for February 3. In a bid to ensure peace and order, the command has deployed an impressive 2,000 personnel to the Ikono, Ini, and Ibiono Ibom local government areas.

In a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer SP Odiko Macdon in Uyo, the state capital, it was revealed that there would be stringent restrictions on movement from 7 am to 2 pm in the affected local government areas. The only exceptions are for INEC staff, health workers, and security agents.

Macdon used the statement to encourage residents to come out and exercise their voting rights without fear of intimidation or violence. However, he issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers, making it clear that any acts of violence would not be tolerated.

The heavy security presence underscores the significance of this by-election, and all eyes will be on Akwa Ibom as the region plays a pivotal role in shaping the country’s political landscape.
