ICAN Appoints New RegistrarCEO

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has named Dr. Musibau Olasunkanmi as its new Registrar/Chief Executive. This decision was approved during the December 15, 2023 meeting by the Institute’s Governing Council and was officially announced this Friday.

ICAN described Olasunkanmi’s appointment as a “strategic decision” that emphasizes ICAN’s dedication to cultivating exceptional leadership, guiding the Institute towards sustained growth and influence in the future.

Dr. Olasunkanmi assumed the role of Registrar/Chief Executive on Thursday, succeeding Mr. Mukaila Lawal, the Acting Registrar/Chief Executive, who is set to retire on March 1. With over 16 years of professional experience across various functional areas in both the private and public sectors, Olasunkanmi is well-equipped to lead ICAN into its next chapter.

His educational qualifications include a PhD in Forensic Accounting & Audit from Charisma University, Turks and Caicos Island, UK; an M.Sc. in Accounting from Afe Babalola University; an MBA from the University of Lagos; a B.Sc. in Accounting from Adekunle Ajasin University; and an HND in Accounting from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.

ICAN expressed optimism about the innovative leadership that Olasunkanmi is expected to bring to the organization, stating, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Olasunkanmi and convey our best wishes for a successful tenure in office.”

As per the ICAN Act. (Cap. 185.), the registrar is responsible for maintaining a register of qualified individuals entitled to be enrolled as fellows or associates, or registered accountants, in accordance with the Act’s provisions and the council’s rules.
