Nigerian musician and music executive, Banky Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has revealed the truth about discovering his former protege, Wizkid.
Contrary to popular belief that he found the renowned singer through social media, Banky W disclosed that he actually encountered Wizkid in the studio. Addressing a video making rounds, the singer-turned-pastor emphasized the significance of being proactive and dedicated to one’s craft.
Banky W debunked the notion that the pivotal moment of their professional relationship stemmed from a tweet exchange, clarifying that it was simply a lighthearted exchange while they were already collaborating. He stressed that he discovered Wizkid through his music, not his social media presence.
Recalling their early days, Banky W reminisced about encountering Wizkid as an aspiring artist who had already demonstrated his talent by recording a chorus with another prominent artist. Demonstrating Wizkid’s commitment, Banky W mentioned an event where Wizkid served as a backup singer, showcasing his dedication and versatility.
It’s worth noting that Banky W signed Wizkid to his label, Empire Mates Entertainment, in 2009, and Wizkid’s career skyrocketed with the release of his debut album “Superstar” in 2011. Wizkid later departed from EME after the release of his sophomore album, ‘Ayo,’ in 2014.
