INEC Monitors Election Disruptions in Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and Kano

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported monitoring disruptions caused by thuggery and material hijacking in Akwa Ibom, Enugu, and Kano States. According to a statement released on its verified social media handle, the commission confirmed that the polls opened promptly and accreditation was underway in the 8,934 Polling Units across 26 States involved in Saturday’s by-elections and re-run elections.

The statement highlighted specific incidents requiring investigation. In Akwa Ibom State’s Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, disturbances were reported at Village Hall, EdemUrua 003 in Ini LGA, and Village Hall Mbiabong Ikot Udo 003 in Ikono LGA. Similarly, in Enugu South 1 State Constituency of Enugu State, disruptions were reported in 8 Polling Units in Uwani West Ward. Meanwhile, in Kunchi/Tsanyawa State Constituencies of Kano State, disruptions were identified in Kunchi Local Government Area, involving 10 Polling Units.

INEC assured the public of regular updates on the situation, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
